Symposium: The Cinematic Museum - The Postwar Art Documentary

De jaren 1940 en 1950 kunnen worden beschouwd als het gouden tijdperk van de kunstdocumentaire. Er was toen niet alleen een gigantische productie, vele kunstdocumentaires uit deze jaren vallen ook op door hun essayistische stijl en innovatieve vormgeving die didactische drammerigheid inruilde voor een ware filmische belevenis.

In het kader van het symposium The Cinematic Museum: The Postwar Art Documentary worden vertoningen georganiseerd van onder meer L’Enfer de Rodin (Henri Alekan, 1957), A Sculptor’s Landscape (John Read, 1957), Pictura: An Adventure in Art (1951), Les Pierres Vives (Fernand Marzelle, 1951), Figures in a Landscape (Dudley Shaw Ashton, 1953) en enkele Critofilms van de Italiaanse kunsthistoricus Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti. Het programma omvat ook vertoningen van recente museumexploraties van de Brits-Canadese kunstenaar Mark Lewis en de Argentijnse cineast Matías Piñeiro.

De films worden ingeleid door sprekers als Mark Lewis, John Wyver, Lucy Reynolds, Emanuele Pellegrini, Dimitrios Latsis. Georganiseerd door Steven Jacobs en Birgit Cleppe (Universiteit Gent) in samenwerking met Cinea en KASKcinema.

Het symposium en het filmprogramma is gratis, maar reservatie is vereist via info@cinea.be vóór 27 november.
